IELTS Improvement Points
Collocation:
open a pack (not draw a package)
→ The natural collocation when talking about trading cards. Draw a package is incorrect in English.
according to the official website
→ A very common collocation for citing sources formally, stronger than just “the official said.”
looked it up app
→ Idiomatic and natural phrasal verb for searching information. More fluent than “searched it app.”
Template:
To my surprise, [unexpected event].
→ Useful template to describe surprising experiences in IELTS Speaking Part 2 or Writing Task 2.
Whereas [situation A], [situation B].
→ A formal linking word to contrast two facts. Example: Whereas most students study full-time, some choose part-time courses.
Vocabulary:
pack (instead of package)
→ Correct term for a set of trading cards. Package suggests a parcel or box, not a booster pack.
contain / contained
→ More precise than include when describing what is inside a box, bag, or pack.
rarely / occasionally
→ Useful adverbs to describe frequency. Rarely is better than “rarely 8% average,” which is ungrammatical.
