Unemployment: day 35
I went to a Chinese restaurant where I used to want to visit. It was clouded every time in lunch time. So I didn’t enter there. But in this time, I visited there when it opened. I ordered a lunch set that included a ramen and one dish. It was simple and deeply tasty. I understood the reason why the restaurant was so popular.

Correct version
I went to a Chinese restaurant I had always wanted to visit. It was always crowded at lunchtime, so I had never gone in. This time, however, I went just as it opened. I ordered a lunch set that included ramen and a side dish. The food was simple yet full of flavour. I finally understood why the restaurant was so popular.
IELTS Improvement Points
Collocation:
“full of flavour”
→ A natural collocation used to describe delicious food with rich taste; more vivid than just saying “tasty”.
“always wanted to visit”
→ A commonly used phrase to express long-standing desire, especially useful in personal narratives.
“just as it opened”
→ A useful time expression for describing precise timing; improves narrative clarity.
Template:
“I finally understood why…”
→ A strong reflective sentence pattern used to conclude an experience and express personal insight.
“It was [adjective] yet [adjective].”
→ Balanced structure that contrasts two qualities; useful for nuanced descriptions (e.g., simple yet elegant, cheap yet delicious).
Vocabulary:
crowded
→ More appropriate than “clouded” (which means “obscured” or “foggy”); “crowded” means full of people, commonly used to describe busy places.
side dish
→ More natural and specific than “one dish”; refers to a smaller dish served alongside a main course.
understood
→ Past tense form for reflecting on a realisation; better than “I understood the reason why…” which is grammatically clunky.
however
→ Effective linking word to introduce contrast between past failed attempts and present success.
